Open Wounds is a brutality-scaling mutation which makes melee attacks inflict bleeding on enemies.

Notes[edit]
- This mutation only works with melee weapons and melee damage, despite the description, "close combat".
- Other actions that can cause melee damage (and thus activate this effect) are dive attacks, shield parries, and use of skills that cause melee damage:
- a 5BC spoilery spinning skill
- Attacks from affixes (bombs, arrows) do not inflict bleed stack from this mutation.
- Weapons that already inherently inflict bleeding (notably, the and ) will still be able to add another bleed stack via this mutation. So, for example, each slash of a Blood Sword will inflict one instance of bleed damage-over-time via the Blood Sword and one instance of Open Wounds bleed damage-over-time, for two bleed stacks per slash.
- Despite being listed as a Brutality scaling mutation, the DPS of Open Wounds does not actually scale with Brutality specifically. Instead, it scales with the scroll count of the item that is applying it, meaning it can function equally effectively when taken off-color.
- Additionally, Open Wounds scales with the gear level of the item that applies it, making it the only flat damage mutation to scale with gear level.
