The Prisoners' Cell is the first biome in Dead Cells. The player begins each run here, taking control of a new beheaded body.

A run-down stone dungeon. Moss grows on the bricks, and prison cells can be seen in the background, most of them with broken bars. Torches line the walls.

While in the starting area, time is paused.

  • All of the player's blueprints are displayed in glass flasks hanging from the ceiling.
  • Below their blueprints, the player will find their starting equipment, which can be improved through the Collector.
  • There is a mysterious door outside the starting area.

NPCs[edit]

The Scribe sits in the starting area making rude comments. If talked to, they will show the player their stats.

During the player's first two runs, they will talk to an unknown NPC.
